Week 3 Lab

View San Francisco Trip in a larger map
My map shows my most recent trip to San Francisco. I began my day at my Nonna’s house where I slept the night before. Upon leaving I went to Wells Fargo to grab some cash for my day and Starbucks for a good breakfast start. I then walked down to Laguna to catch the Muni 28 which I took to the Exploratorium. After learning about science in the Exploratorium I headed over to a scenic spot on the bay shore. After remembering how grateful I was to be staying with my Nonna, I headed to Safeway to pick her up some flowers. From there I went to the Fort Mason Center to learn a little about the city.  After words I went to Ghiradelli’s to get an ice cream sundae.
One of the major benefits of neogeography is that it allows anyone to add geographical data and maps. This means that there is a lot more data available because everyone can contribute. This is also awesome because other people can bring new perspectives and spur new creative maps to be made.
With this potential though comes many draw backs. When everyone can be a geographer there is a loss of responsibility. This means that not everyone can be held accountable for posting only accurate information. This translates to a lot of neogeography being unreliable. Additionally because anyone can add anything, there are many maps that are of no use to anyone. One of the potential pitfalls is confusing amateur neogeography with professional GIS work.
